When relocating long-distance, one of the biggest questions is: "What do we do with the car?" Driving it yourself can be time-consuming, expensive (fuel, hotels, food), and adds unnecessary wear and tear to your vehicle. This is where professional car transportation services come in.
Open Carrier: This is the most common and cost-effective method. Your car is transported on a long, open trailer, similar to those you see delivering new cars to dealerships. It's a safe and reliable option, though your vehicle is exposed to the elements. Enclosed Carrier: This option provides maximum protection. Your car is shipped inside a fully enclosed trailer, shielding it from weather, road debris, and potential damage. This is the recommended choice for luxury cars, classic vehicles, or if you simply want extra peace of mind.
Wash Your Car: Clean your car thoroughly inside and out. This makes it easier to conduct a pre-move inspection for any existing scratches or dents. Document its Condition: Take clear, dated photos of your car from all angles before the pickup. This creates a visual record of its pre-transport condition. Remove Personal Belongings: Do not leave personal or valuable items inside your car. Transport companies are not licensed to carry household goods and their insurance will not cover these items. Leave a Low Fuel Level: Keep only about 1/4 of a tank of gas. This reduces the vehicle's weight and is a standard safety requirement. Secure Loose Parts: Ensure there are no loose parts on your car. If you have a custom spoiler or a roof rack, make sure it is secure or remove it.
Copy of your Vehicle's Registration Certificate (RC). Copy of your vehicle's insurance paper. A valid Photo ID (like an Aadhaar card or driver's license). A "No Objection Certificate" (NOC) from the RTO if you are moving the car to a new state and plan to re-register it there.
Inspection Report (Bill of Lading): When the driver arrives for pickup, you will both inspect the car together and note any existing damage on a condition report. You will both sign this document. Delivery: Upon arrival at the destination, you will conduct another inspection with the driver, comparing the car's condition to the initial report. Once you are satisfied, you will sign the delivery receipt.
